Serena Mehyar has narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final of the 400m freestyle swimming event on Sunday at the 4th Youth Olympic Games, hosted by the Senegalese capital, Dakar.
Mehyar finished second in her heat in a time of 4:57.52 minutes, behind Cayman Islands swimmer, Kate Galatopoulos.
She placed 18th overall, not enough for a spot in the final which was won by Ecuador's Elvira Espinosa in a lightning quick time of 4:22.87 minutes.
South Africa’s Leah Markgraaff was second in 4:26.13 minutes and Belgium’s Celia Baquias earned the bronze medal in 4:28.37 minutes.
Mehyar continues her participation in the Youth Olympic Games tomorrow (Monday) in the 100m freestyle event, competing in the third heat at 1.05pm Jordan time.
Meanwhile, teammate Michael Al-Wer begins his Games campaign in the pool by contesting the same event for males in the fifth heat at 1.38pm Jordan time.
