JORDAN INTO BASKETBALL ASIAN QUARTERS DESPITE SECOND DEFEAT
Sep 13, 2026
Jordan have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Basketball at the 20th Asian Games taking place in the Japanese city of Nagoya.
A second defeat from three Group B games meant Jordan only qualified as one of the two best third-placed finishers.
Group winners Iran were the victors in their latest match, 68-81, and it follows an earlier defeat to Chinese Taipei, but a solitary win over Qater.
Iran edged Chinese Taipei to top spot on head-to-head results after both secured five points, while Jordan accumulate four and Qatar.
South Korea and Japan qualified from Group A.
The last eight match-ups will be determined on ranking positions.
Pot D includes the first and second ranked sides, Pot E includes the third and fourth, Pot F is fifth and sixth, while Pot G includes the seventh and eighth.
According to the draw system, teams from Pot D will face teams from Pot G, while teams from Pot E will face teams from Pot F, with a restriction preventing two teams that previously met in the same group during the first round from facing each other again.
The quarter-final matches will take place on Wednesday, while the two semi-final matches will be held on Friday, with the Basketball competition concluding on September 20, one day after the official Games Opening Ceremony.
