BASKETBALLERS LOSE VITAL WORLD CUP QUALIFIER AUSTRALIA
Aug 30, 2026
Jordan’s bid to reach the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup took a blow when they lost their latest qualifying match to Australia 93-126 at the Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippine capital, Manila.
It was the second defeat in a row after losing to The Phillipines last Thursday during this fourth window of the second and decisive round of the Asian Qualifiers.
The fifth qualifying window opens in November, when Jordan will meet New Zealand and Australia on the 27th and 30th.
The national team had finished second in Group C during the first round of qualifiers with 11 points, accumulated from five victories against a single loss.
Teams qualifying for the second round carry forward their results and points from the first round, where Jordan play home-and-away matches against The Philippines, Australia and New Zealand within Group E, which also includes Syria and Iran - both of whom were alongside Jordan in the same first-round group so will not be played against again in this stage.
Meanwhile, Group F features Lebanon, Japan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and China.
The top three teams from each group qualify directly for the World Cup finals, alongside the best fourth-placed team across both groups, while Qatar hosts the finals next year.
