JORDAN TO MEET THE PHILIPPINES IN DECISIVE WORLD CUP QUALIFIER
Aug 27, 2026
Jordan will take on hosts The Philippines tomorrow (Friday) at 3.30pm Friday, in a crucial
Asian qualifier for the FIBA Basketball World Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila.
The national team needs a strong start in this decisive round, and securing a win against The Philippines will put them in a strong position before facing Australia next Sunday.
The ‘Falcons’ seek to boost their chances of qualifying for the World Cup finals for the fourth time in their history, the third consecutively.
They finished second in Group C during the first round of qualifiers with 11 points, accumulated from five victories against a single loss.
Teams qualifying for the second round carry forward their points from the first round, and Jordan will play home-and-away matches against The Philippines, Australia and New Zealand within Group E, which also includes Syria and Iran - both of which were alongside Jordan in the same first-round group so they will not play them again in this stage.
Group F features Lebanon, Japan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and China.
The top four teams from each group qualify directly for the World Cup finals, hosted by Qatar next year.
Jordan prepared for this qualifying window by participating in the William Jones Cup in Taiwan, before completing its preparations in The Philippines capital, Manila.
Following the Australia match, the national team will head to the Japanese city of Nagoya to participate in the 20th Asian Games, looking to go one better than last time when they won the silver medal in Hangzhou, China, in 2023.
