Jordan is sending a top-notch Karate delegation that will be in pursuit of medals at the 20th Asian Games, hosted by the Japanese city of Nagoya from September 19 to October 4.
Six male and female fighters have been selected with Abdullah Hammad, Abdel Rahman Al-Masatfa, Mohammad Al-Jafari, Jood Al-Drous, Nour Allah Nasir and Yara Nasir all looking to impress.
They will be led by technical director, Mohammad Fetian and coach, Hossein Rouhani.
The national team has elevated the pace of its preparations for the Nagoya Asiad through intensive training sessions aimed at reaching peak technical and physical readiness before the start of competitions.
Fetian confirmed there was high morale within the team ranks, noting that the athletes recognise the magnitude of the responsibility placed upon their shoulders at this major continental event.
Fetian said: “Jordanian Karate always rises to the occasion at major events, and the Asian Games represent a significant milestone for us.
“Morale is high, everyone is working hard during the current period, and we look forward to delivering distinguished performances, achieving more accomplishments for karate, Jordanian sport.”
The national team hopes to maintain its brilliance across various events, confirming its strong presence at the Asian Games, where Jordanian karate has previously achieved 14 medals, comprising one gold, four silver and nine bronze.
In the previous edition hosted by the Chinese city of Hangzhou, the national team won five medals - including silvers through Abdel Rahman Al-Masatfa and Hasan Masarweh, alongside three bronze medals secured by Mohammad Al-Jafari, Abdullah Hammad and Jood Al-Drous.
Rahman Al-Masatfa stands out among the national team ranks as the most decorated Jordanian Karate athlete in Asian Games history with three medals, including two silvers in the 2014, 2022 editions and a bronze in the 2018 edition.
Karate competitions at the Nagoya Asiad will take place from September 20-23 at the Toyohashi City General Gymnasium.
