Jul 31, 2026
Jordan will take part in 16 sports at the 20th Asian Games, to be hosted by the Japanese city of Nagoya from September 19-October 4.
The Jordan Olympic Committee, who oversee the delegation, said that athletes will complete in gymnastics, triathlon, karate, cycling, weightlifting, equestrian, ju-jitsu, basketball, fencing, tennis, boxing, esports, taekwondo, mixed martial arts, squash and climbing.
The Asian Games is the largest multi-sport event in Asia, held every four years with the participation of athletes from Asian National Olympic Committees, and is considered the second-largest multi-sport event in the world after the Summer Olympic Games.
JOC Secretary General, Rana Al-Saeed, said: “We look forward to our national teams delivering their best performances and achieving results that reflect the hard work put in by the sports federations and athletes, contributing to strengthening the presence of Jordanian sports on the continental stage.”
Al-Saeed added that the importance of the Asian Games is not limited to the competitive aspect alone, but also serves as a major milestone in the preparation programmes for many national teams, offering an opportunity to compete against elite Asian athletes and helping to evaluate technical readiness before the start of continental and world championships, as well as qualifying events for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Jordan began its participation in the Asian Games during the Seoul edition in 1986. Across nine previous appearances, Jordan has amassed a total of 54 medals, including five gold, 21 silver, and 28 bronze.
