BASKETBALLERS SET TO RESUME WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS

Jordan have stepped up their training in preparation to resume their campaign in the Asian qualifiers for the 2027 World Basketball Cup finals.
The national team has three vital matches approaching when they will face Iraq on Monday in a postponed match from the second window, before taking on Iran and Iraq on July 2 and 5th in the third window competitions for Group C.
All matches will be held at the Arena Hall in Al-Hussein Youth City with the team looking to maintain their positive results in the qualifiers so far, having achieved picked up three wins from three over Syria (twice) and Iran to top Group C with six points.
Technical Director, Wesam Al-Sous, confirmed that preparations were progressing according to the designated technical programme, noting that the coaching staff were focusing on raising the players’ readiness and improving team performance.
Al-Sous also called on the passionate Jordan fans to back the team, emphasising that home advantage could be key for the three matches.
Sixteen teams are participating in the Asian qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup, divided into four groups of four with the competitions played in a two-legged round-robin format (home and away).
The top three teams from each group will advance to the second round, with the exception of the group that includes Qatar - who qualify automatically for the World Cup as the host nation - from which only two teams will advance.
In the second round, the 12 qualified teams will be divided into two groups of six, carrying over their first-round results. Each team will play home and away against the three teams they did not face previously.
At the conclusion of this stage, the top three teams from each group, along with the best fourth-placed team, will qualify for the World Cup finals to join the automatically qualified hosts, Qatar.
