Apr 26, 2026
Olympian Juliana Al-Sadeq has shared her pride at making the switch to leading the Jordan delegation at the Asian Beach Games taking place in Sanya, China.
The board member of the Jordan Olympic Committee and former Taekwondo champion, said it was an honour in being entrusted with leading the delegation as chef de mission.
Al-Sadeq stated that Jordan’s participation in the current edition of the Games witnessed solid technical performances, despite some details that prevented them achieving better results.
She praised the performance of the Beach Handball team, which delivered strong performances and achieved notable results, but was denied a place in the semi-finals due to fine margins.
She noted that limiting qualification to the top two teams from each group made the competition more challenging and added that the team features a rising generation of players who previously qualified for the World Cup in a historic achievement, emphasising that this participation represents an important opportunity to gain further experience, especially given the limited number of beach competitions.
Regarding the Jiu-Jitsu team, Al-Sadeq explained that the participation included young athletes with the aim of gaining experience, highlighting their strong performances during the bouts.
She considered this participation an important preparatory step for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan and also commended the performance of Aquathlon athlete, Lydia Maslah, who finished 11th in a world-class field. She is now bidding to qualify for the Olympic Games (Los Angeles 2028) in triathlon.
On Beach Wrestling, Al-Sadeq indicated that the delegation was looking forward to the team’s participation in this sport, which is relatively new in Jordan.
She emphasised that the team includes a group of young athletes and that this participation represents a valuable opportunity to gain essential experience.
In conclusion, Al-Sadeq expressed her pride in all of the athletes, praising their full commitment both inside and outside the athletes’ village.
She affirmed that they presented an honourable image and reflected the true spirit of Jordanian sport, striving to represent their country in the best possible way.
