The Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) and Ahliyyeh Amman University have signed a cooperation agreement that will create scholarships for outstanding students on the Olympic Preparation Programme.
The ceremony was held at the university’s headquarters in the presence of Nasser Majali, JOC Secretary General; Dr. Sari Hamdan, President of Ahliyyeh Amman University; Dr. Maher Hourani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ahliyyeh Amman University; and Ms. Inas Hourani, Director of Public and International Relations at the University.
Majali praised the support, stressing the need to back our national team athletes who also want to excel in their studies. “These grants will provide athletes with a reassurance about their future away from sport, helping them to concentrate fully on their bid to achieve success for the Kingdom,” said Majali.
Dr. Sari Hamdan added that it is vital that the educational sector supports the athletes to build a better future together. “The Ahliyyeh Amman University is delighted to support outstanding Jordanian youngsters,” he said. “The university administration decided to provide scholarships to distinguished students from the Olympic Preparation Programme because we are well aware of the efforts exerted by these players and the sacrifices they make to raise the Jordanian flag in regional and international championships.”
In conjunction with the signing ceremony, the management of Ahliyyeh Amman University honoured three of the students who benefit from the support. They are Taekwondo stars Ahmed Abu Ghaush, Saleh Al Sharabati and Zaid Al Halawani.
