As we tick closer to the Opening Ceremony of the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia next week, we take a look back at the 16th version held in Guangzhou, China, eight years ago.
The event attracted 45 nations with Jordan entering 86 athletes who competed in 11 sports including Football, Taekwondo, Boxing, Fencing, Wrestling, Squash, Karate, Basketball, Chess, Kung Fu and Swimming. It turned out to be Jordan’s most successful yet, with six medals won including a pair of golds for current national Taekwondo Coach, Nabeel Talal, and Manar Shaath in Karate, the first lady to achieve an Asian Games gold for Jordan.
Dana Haidar won a Taekwondo silver and Bashar Al Najjar repeated the same feat in Karate, with Taekwondo’s Nadin Dawani and Karate’s Mutasim Khair adding two more bronze medals.
