JORDAN FLAG RAISED AT ASIAN WINTER GAMES
Feb 19, 2017
Jordan has officially been welcomed to the 8th Asian Winter Games at a flag raising ceremony held in the Japanese host city of Sapporo.
This is only the third time that Jordan has participated at the event, and while our two skiers, Sara Sukhtian and Suhail Azzam are putting their final touches to preparations before heading east, Jordan Olympic Committee Secretary General Nasser Majali was present at the ceremony.
“It is important for us to participate in these major international multi-sport events and I would like to thank the city of Sapporo for providing Jordan with such a warm official welcome,” said Mr. Majali.
Following an invitation to Jordan from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), experienced skiers Sukhtian and Azzam answered the late call to compete in the giant slalom and the slalom respectively.
Their entry qualifies the Kingdom for funding from the OCA which will in turn be pumped back in to local sport. On the sidelines of the event, there will be a number of high level meetings which Mr. Majali will attend on behalf of Jordan.
The 8th Asian Winter Games will welcome almost 1,000 athletes from 32 countries and will officially open on Sunday night and run through until February 26.
