Jordan's bid to win the West Asian Basketball Championships on home soil started with a win over Syria on Sunday night.
In front of a packed Fuhais Club, Jordan fell behind after the first quarter but struck back strongly to lead by half time.
They stayed in front for the rest of the game to launch their campaign on the right foot with a 78-70 win.
In other opening night matches, holders Iran hammered Palestine 114-65 and Lebanon eased past Iraq 86-46.
Matches will continue Monday with Iran playing Syria at 3pm, Lebanon meeting Palestine at 5pm and Jordan taking on Iraq at 7pm.
