JORDAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEE HOLDS SAFEGUARDING WORKSHOP FOR FEDERATION BOARD MEMBERS
Aug 22, 2026
The Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) has today (Saturday) hosted a workshop for board members of sports federations on safeguarding in sport to drive its mission to ensure that sport is a safe place for all built on protection, respect and accountability.
The workshop comes as part of an ongoing path pursued by the JOC to bolster sports safeguarding, develop the capacities of sports institutions, and to elevate the level of awareness and responsibility across the sports ecosystem, in alignment with international practices.
The workshop addressed the concept of sports safeguarding as an integrated system of policies, instructions, procedures and preventive practices aimed at protecting sports participants, enhancing their physical, psychological safety and well-being.
The workshop also reviewed the responsibilities of sports federation board members, including commitment to governance, accountability, fostering a culture of prevention, protection and providing safe and confidential mechanisms for reporting complaints, alongside zero tolerance for abuse, harassment and ultimately taking appropriate action upon any violation.
The course also touched upon the sports safeguarding system within federations, as well as the roles and responsibilities of a safeguarding officer as well as creating a safeguarding focal point and specialised committees, alongside the importance of offering clear, safe, and confidential reporting channels.
This will entrench the principle of zero tolerance for various forms of abuse, harassment, violence and neglect.
The course also serves as a continuation of the JOC’s efforts in building a comprehensive sports safeguarding framework to boost the capabilities of sports federations and contributing to transitioning from reactive case response to embedding a culture of prevention and risk management through building a safe and sustainable sporting environment.
