JORDAN BEAT IRAN IN FIBA WORLD CUP QUALIFIER
Feb 27, 2026
Jordan secured a 73-60 victory over Iran on Friday in their third match of the Asian qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup (Qatar 2027).
The win in Beirut, Lebanon, moved Jordan to the top of Group C with six points, recording its third consecutive victory after defeating Syria twice in the first qualifying window.
Jordan had previously shared the top spot with Iran, who also won their two earlier matches against Iraq whom Jordan meet next Monday in Beirut.
A total of 16 teams are competing in the Asian qualifiers, divided into four groups of four teams, playing a home-and-away round-robin format.
The top three teams from each group will advance to the second round, except for the group that includes Qatar, which has already qualified as the host nation—meaning only two teams from that group will progress.
In the second round, the 12 qualified teams will be divided into two groups of six teams.
Results from the first round will carry over, and each team will face the three new opponents in its group in a home-and-away format.
At the end of the second round, the top three teams from each group, along with the best fourth-placed team, will qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup, joining the host nation Qatar.
