HRH PRINCE FEISAL OPENS SYRIA PEACEBUILDING CONFERENCE IN AMMAN
Jan 14, 2026
His Royal Highness Prince Feisal Al Hussein has opened the conference “Sport for Peacebuilding in Syria: From Dialogue to Action,” organised by Generations For Peace in partnership with the Olympic Council of Asia, UNICEF, the Olympic Refuge Foundation, and the Yusra Mardini Foundation.
Under the patronage of HRH Prince Feisal, the two-day conference brings together more than 150 participants from international and regional organisations, representatives of Syrian civil society, youth leaders, and non-governmental organisations.
The event aims to explore ways to leverage sport as a practical tool to promote peace, build community resilience, and support social recovery in Syrian communities affected by conflict.
The first day of the conference began with opening remarks, followed by a keynote address delivered by Olympic swimmer Yusra Mardini, representing the Yusra Mardini Foundation.
In her address, she highlighted her personal journey and the transformative role of sport in empowering young people and fostering hope in contexts of conflict and displacement.
Lama Al-Hattab, Chief Executive Officer of Generations For Peace, stated that the conference responds to a growing need for safe spaces that enable Syrian youth to express themselves, participate, and heal.
She emphasised that sport is a practical and proven tool for building resilience and strengthening social cohesion, adding that bringing together this diverse group of partners and expertise in one place is a crucial step towards moving from dialogue to action and developing realistic, implementable solutions.
The day’s agenda featured an interactive programme that included panel discussions and rapid dialogue sessions addressing trauma recovery, trust-building, youth engagement, and the role of local community initiatives in supporting social cohesion.
The conference continues Thursday with interactive sporting activities and practical workshops focused on translating dialogue into action and developing tangible outcomes that contribute to integrating sport into recovery and peacebuilding efforts in Syria.
