SILVER FOR AL-JAAFARI AT ISLAMIC SOLIDARITY GAMES

Mohammad Al-Jaafari has won a Karate silver medal for Jordan on Tuesday at the Islamic Solidarity Games, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Currently ranked world number one in the -84kg category, Al-Jaafari secured the silver medal after three consecutive victories before falling in the final to Kazakhstan’s Nikita Tarnakin.
His earlier victories came over Azerbaijan’s Turgut Hassanov in the Round of 16, followed by UAE’s Reda Al-Masoudi and Senegal’s Mokhtar Diop in the semi-final before settling for his second silver in the history of the Games.
Meanwhile, teammate Abdullah Hammad (-60kg) just fell short of the podium.
After claiming wins over Albania’s Orges Arifi and Benin’s Marcial Kpadonu, he lost in the quarter-finals to Kuwait’s Abdullah Shaban and later in the bronze medal match to Kazakhstan’s Zulaman.
The Karate team continue its campaign tomorrow (Wednesday) with appearances from Abdulrahman Al-Masatfa (-67kg), Jud Al-Darous (-68kg) and Yara Nasser (+68kg).
