HRH PRINCE FEISAL ATTENDS CLOSING CEREMONY OF JORDAN-GERMAN HANDBALL PROJECT

Oct 20, 2025
Under the patronage of HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee, and in the presence of Mr. Thomas Weikert, President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), the closing ceremony of the Jordanian-German Handball Project was held on Monday.
The event marked the conclusion of a four-year initiative that has had a significant impact on the development of Handball in Jordan.
The project, one of the initiatives of the German Olympic Sports Confederation and supported by the German Federal Foreign Office, was built around four key objectives that contributed to strengthening and advancing Jordanian Handball at various levels.
The project aimed to expand the grassroots base of the sport through a youth development programme currently operating in 18 training centres across the Kingdom, under the supervision of German handball expert Wolfgang Luffack.
The programme has been instrumental in developing the fundamental skills of young players and nurturing future national team talents.
It also focused on enhancing the capabilities of coaches, by organising training courses at different levels, which led to an increase in the number of qualified technical staff and improved the quality of coaching across clubs, training centres, and national teams.
Another core goal of the project was to increase women’s participation in Jordanian Handball - both as players and coaches - by providing a supportive environment and equal opportunities, resulting in greater female representation and empowerment within the sport.
Additionally, the project promoted the social inclusion of refugees in Jordanian communities through Handball-related sporting and social activities, creating safe spaces for interaction and integration.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, attendees watched a series of skill demonstrations performed by young talent at Princess Sumaya Hall, showcasing their impressive development and reflecting the significant progress achieved over the past four years.
