Ziad Ishaish has guaranteed at least a bronze medal for Jordan after reaching the semi-finals of the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, England.
Ishaish has been in sparkling form in the 70kg weight, and overcame Uzbekistan’s Shavkatjon Boltaev in style, 5-0, to book his spot in the last four.
Next up, he will face Japan’s Sewonrets Okazawa on Saturday for a place in the final after he beat Kyrgyzstan’s Ikhtiiar Nishonov.
A win would make him the first Jordanian boxer ever to reach the final of the World Boxing Championships.
Ishaish said: “I’m very happy with this victory and my third straight win. Securing a medal is a proud moment, but now my eyes are set on reaching the final and competing for the gold.”
Ishaish’s career highlights also include a bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games, a silver at the 2022 Asian Championships, in addition to qualifying for the last two editions of the Olympic Games.
