Al-Ashish through to last 16 at World Boxing Championships

Huthaifa Al-Ashish is into the last 16 after an opening victory at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, England, on Friday.

Al-Ashish delivered a strong performance, beating Ireland’s Lewis Rooney by a 3-2 decision in the Round of 32 of the -50kg category. He will next face Kazakhstan’s Sanzhar on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Al-Hussein lost his -75kg bout 0-5 to India’s Sumit in the Round of 32.

Jordan’s campaign continues on Saturday with Olympian Ziad Al-Ashish (-70kg) set to meet USA’s Carlos Flores in the Round of 32, while Mohammad Abu Jajeh—bronze medalist at the last World Championships—will face Canada’s Kimo Ali in the -60kg category.
