IPC PRESIDENT PLANS AMMAN TRIP

International Paralympic Committee President, Andrew Parsons, is expected to attend the second edition of the West Asian Para Games in Jordan from September 15-22.
Held under the patronage of HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee, and an International Olympic Committee Member, the event will welcome over 500 athletes from all 12 West Asian countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Iraq, Yemen, Palestine, Riya, Lebanon, in addition to Jordan.
The sports of wheelchair basketball, powerlifting, goal ball, table tennis and boccia will be played. Hussein Abu Al-Ruz, from the Jordan Paralympic Committee, said that the International Paralympic Committee President’s keenness to visit Amman will provide a huge boost to the West Asian Games as well as the Paralympic Movement in Jordan.
Former Paralympian Maha Barghouti, Secretary General of the Jordan Paralympic Committee and Director of the West Asian Games, revealed that a number of regional dignitaries will also attend including the UAE’s Majid Abdullah Al-Osaimi, Chairman of the Asian Paralympic Committee; Abdul Razak Bani Rashid, President of the West Asian Paralympic Federation; Mohammed Al Hamli, Board Member, International Paralympic Committee; Tariq Sultan Al-Khadim, Vice-President of the International Federation of Wheelchair Sports; Issa Al-Hazami, Secretary General of Sharjah Sports Council; and Japan’s Masayuki Mizuno, Vice President of the International Paralympic Committee.
According to Jasser Nouiran, Sports Director at the Jordan Paralympic Committee and member of the Executive Bureau and Chairman of the Competitions and Technical Committee of the West Asian Paralympic Federation, Amman will witness a series of important meetings on the sidelines of the West Asian Games. On September 16, the Heads of Delegations' Meeting will be held followed on September 20 when the President of the International Paralympic Committee will meet with the Executive Office of the West Asian Federation and the participating delegations.
The closing ceremony will be held on the evening of September 21 at the Prince Raad Bin Zaid Complex for Disabled Sports.
