CLIMBING TO THE HEIGHTS OF THE ASIAN GAMES
Sep 01, 2026
Two of Jordan’s best climbers are heading to Japan this month to compete at the 20th Asian Games, hosted by the Japanese city of Nagoya from September 19 to October 4 in a history making appearance.
Omar Abu Hamtou and Jood Farkouh are the first Jordanian climbers to compete at the Games, showing the development made by the sport locally in recent years.
Sport climbing made its debut appearance on the Asian Games programme at the 2018 edition in Indonesia, before consolidating its presence on the Games’ official programme.
The pair will be competing from September 29 to October 1 at the Nagoya International Exhibition Hall.
Coach, Gian Percillero, confirmed that both athletes were in top condition ahead of the competition with six sessions a week combining physical conditioning and specialised technical training.
He explained that the Asian Games stands among the most prominent and competitive climbing events globally after the Olympic Games, given Asia’s concentration of world-class climbers.
He added that participating will provide Abu Hamtou and Farkouh a vital opportunity to test themselves against the best and gain further experience, while striving to deliver a strong performance to mark Jordan’s debut.
