Mohammad Al-Jafari has won a gold medal, and teammate Afif Ghaith has won the silver at the fourth round of the Karate 1-Premier League, which concluded Sunday in the Moroccan capital, Rabat.
Al-Jafari successfully clinched the -&4kg gold after defeating Egypt's Youssef Badawy (5-3) in the final.
He had paved his way to the final by securing four consecutive victories, topping his group in the round-robin stage with wins against Japan's Haruya Toyoda (11-4) and Italy's Matteo Fiore (5-3). He then defeated Morocco's Mehdi Sriti (8-2) in the quarter-finals, and overcame Greece's Konstantinos Mastrogiannis (4-2) in the semi-finals.
Ghaith’s silver in the -67 kg category came after he was defeated in the final by Morocco's Said Ubaya.
Earlier, he had advanced after an impressive streak of five consecutive victories, topping his group in the first round by defeating Ireland's Connor Sullivan (6-0), Turkey's Ömer Abdurrahim Özer (3-0), and Italy's Gianluca De Vivo (4-0). In the quarter-finals, he defeated Germany's Muhammed Özdemir (5-0), before securing his final spot by senshu (first unopposed point advantage) against Italy's Luca Maresca following a 5-5 draw in the semi-finals.
