Husam Sulaiman

Husam Sulaiman is fast becoming a household name, a dedicated athlete who believes that an athlete should work hard to achieve. He first played Taekwondo aged nine and has since become one of the Kingdom’s biggest stars.

  1. How did you get into your sport?
    I was nine when I started playing Taekwondo after seeing my uncle play the sport for the Armed Forces. I got the Black Belt when I was 13 and have been a part of national teams since 2002.
     
  2. What have been your main achievements?
    1. Silver Medal in the Youth Arab Championship 2002
    2. Silver Medal in the Youth Asian Games 2003
    3. Gold Medal in the Pan Arab Games in Algeria 2004
    4. Gold Medal in the Open Korea Championship 2004
    5. Gold Medal in the Arab Championship in Bahrain 2008
    6. Silver Medal in the Asian Games in China 2008
    7. Gold Medal in the West Asian Games in Iran 2008
    8. Gold Medal in Al Hassan International in Jordan 2008
    9. I was chosen as the Best Sportsman for individual sport for the Black Iris Sports Media Awards
       
  3. What is the biggest highlight / moment of your career?
    The best moment in my life was when I received the Gold Medal in the Arab Championship; I was then 17 years old and it was my first participation with the Senior Team
     
  4. What are your ambitions / goals now?
    My aim now is to qualify for London Olympic Games 2012 and to win the Gold Medal for Jordan
     
  5. How do you think your sport can be improved?
    By taking care of the distinguished athletes, improving them, provide them with the modern tools for training and support them in all aspects
     
  6. How do you spend your time away from sport?
    I study in order to make a balance between sport and studying and I spend time with my family because its the most important thing in my life.
     
  7. What are your main hobbies / interests?
    Swimming, football and Billiards
     
  8. If you were given one million dinars how would you spend it?
    I would build a house for my family and me. I would buy a sports car. I would build a sports centre for teaching Taekwondo so we can train heroes for the future.
     
  9. Who do you consider as your idol(s)?
    On a personal level my mother and on a sport level the Iranian taekwondo star Hadi Sa’i
     
  10. Who are your favorite overseas and local athletes?
    Overseas it is Brazilian footballer Robinho and locally my friend Odai Al Saifi who plays football for Shabab Al Jordan
     
  11. What message or advice would you like to give youngsters coming into sport?
    They have to work hard to achieve their goals and make history

    Mansaf

    Fadel Shaker
     
  14. Last words for your fans?
    Keep supporting me and I will do my best to deliver. I thank the Jordan Olympic Committee and HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein for supporting sport. I also thank HRH Prince Al Hassan Bin Talal and HRH Prince Rashid Bin Al Hassan for supporting Taekwondo.
