Black Iris Sports Media Awards
Jordan’s version of the sports Oscars – the Black Iris Sports Media Awards – are
held every year in January when the Kingdom’s sports media gather to honour
Jordan’s sports stars as well as their peers.
Every November voting forms are distributed to 120 members of the local media
representing 40 news organizations requesting them to vote for their choice of
the following:
- Sports Man of the year
- Sports Woman of the year
- Sports Team of the Year
- Young Achiever of the Year
- Overseas Athlete of the Year
- Paralympic Athlete of the Year

The decision remains under lock and key at the Jordan Olympic Committee
until the Royal Gala Dinner when all is revealed.
‘Black Iris’ awards are also presented for the Sports Writer of the Year and
the Sports Photographer of the Year.
